Wooo, it’s 2025! New Years Day is like the ultimate Sunday. It’s a day to relax at home, maybe get brunch if you feel like it, and spend some time thinking about what you want out of the coming year. A good friend of mine saw a healer recently, who told her that she can see her goal, just not her path to get there. Maybe that’s where you are with your intentions for the year, or maybe you have a clearly defined path. Maybe you accomplished everything you wanted to last year, or maybe you have some more work to do on those goals. Regardless of where you sit along that spectrum, today (or tomorrow if you’re too hungover) is the perfect day to ruminate on that.
I’ve always loved situations that serve as a fresh start – moving apartments, starting a new job or relationship, milestone birthdays, new years. And although I’ve been in the newborn trenches since Séamus was born in November, or maybe because of that, this year feels like a particularly good opportunity to level up. I know I’ll be spending this week thinking about how I can make that happen.

Monica David, our resident astrology buff, who also happens to be an incredible esthetician, breaks down the first month of this new year.
As we start the new year, we continue with a retrograde Mars until the end of February. When Mars turns retrograde, it affects our physical vitality, our drive, and how we assert ourselves. Any time a planet goes retrograde, its energy turns inward in all of us, and certain things may come up for revision and re-evaluation. A lack of drive and energy may be a common theme, so if you’ve been feeling extra tired and less excited to do the things you normally feel driven to do, you are not alone.
On January 3rd, retrograde Mars will be opposing Pluto, which is quite an intense and dramatic planetary aspect that may create power struggles. The best thing to do on this day is to try to avoid quick and thoughtless reactions. This would be a better day to channel this energy into a project, as it can create immense drive!
Thankfully, lovely Venus will be entering Pisces in early January, which is a lovely, dreamy, artistic, and compassionate sign for Venus to be in, so enjoy a month of romance and creativity! We have a charged full moon in Cancer on the 13th with a couple of conflicting aspects, but the new moon on the 29th will be very positive and uplifting thanks to our friend Jupiter, the planet of expansion and good fortune.
