Summer Skin Tips

I have a lot of feelings about summer. First and foremost, I love it! It would be so dreamy if every day was 78 and sunny with a gentle breeze. I also like it when NYC feels like Satan’s Armpit. It’s sticky and sweaty and everyone just wants to dunk themselves in the nearest body of water. Even the East River looks tempting on those days.

My other feelings about summer revolve around the skin. Namely, how people are treating their precious organ. I don’t like to shame anyone, but seeing sunburnt skin stirs something in me. I just want to storm over to those lobster people and slather them in sunscreen while lecturing them on the irreparable UV damage they’re inflicting upon themselves. But, that won’t get me much farther than a restraining order, so instead I’ll just share my Summer Skin Tips with you all.

WEAR SUNSCREEN – a lot and often. You know the rules – 2 finger lengths’ worth for your face and neck. 2+ oz (or 1 shot glass) for your body. Reapply every 2 hours, and ALWAYS after water sports 💦

My Picks: Le Prunier Plumscreen / Mesoprotech Light Water Antiaging Veil / Vacation Classic Spray SPF 50

USE AN OIL CLEANSER FOR FACE + BODY – It breaks down sunscreen and dissolves excess oil.

My Picks: Furtuna Cielo Puro Cleansing Oil Balm / Environ Pre-Cleansing Oil / Verso Body Oil Cleanser

TRY HYPOCHLOROUS ACID SPRAY – It treats sunburn (tsk, tsk), bug bites, scrapes, cuts, zits, etc

My Picks: The Light Salon Cleanse & Recovery Spray / Tower 28 SOS

PARE BACK YOUR ACTIVES –  Less frequent and less intense exfoliation, Less retinol (retinyl palmitate is A-OK)

  1. exfoliating acids 1-3x week
  2. retinol / retinoic acid 1-3x week
  3. this advice is not applicable to vampires & citizens with UV face visors

AND FOR GOD’S SAKE DON”T FORGET A HAT AND SUNGLASSES.

🤠😎
