It’s Peel Season!

Let The Peeling Begin!

I. Love. Peels.

Nothing gets my pulse racing like a peel series, and autumn is the perfect time to start. The days are getting shorter (😭), the weather is cooler (πŸ’”) and we’re spending more time indoors (πŸ›ŒπŸ‘). Peeling is the perfect antidote for that post-summer blah, when tans are faded and all we’re left with is the cruel hyperpigmented reminder of the sun’s warm embrace.

For many people the word “peel” brings to mind Samantha Jones’ infamous beef carpaccio face hidden behind a rather glamorous yet overly dramatic veil. Fret not, that isn’t the kind of peel we’re talking about. Here at RNY we only use the Environ Cool Peels. Not only does the name conjure a cat wearing sunglasses, but the products themselves are indeed cool. 😎

Dr. Des Fernandes, creator of Environ Skincare, has been using the incredibly gentle yet effective methodology of repetitive superficial peels for nearly 30 years. As a plastic surgeon, the success of his work relies on the integrity of the patient’s skin, so he developed a special line of professional peels that trigger the release of growth factors while preserving the epidermis.

The trick is the combination of a low percentage of acid with a low pH. This maintains your comfort while effectively instigating change within the skin. Once the peel is applied, the cells believe they’re under acidic attack and respond by releasing growth factors like EGF and TGFb-3. These molecules stimulate cell proliferation and differentiation, and increase collagen and hyaluronic acid production. Healthy keratinocytes survive this acidic change, and any unhealthy cells expire. Very light flaking is sometimes experienced a few days post-peel, but there is no downtime and generally no redness. Skin looks tight, smooth and glassy after an Environ peel.

I often use the Cool Peels as the primary method of skin preparation in my facials, so if you’ve been here before you’ve likely already experienced one! Performed as a series of 6-12 weekly peels, however, is an entirely different experience.

The Peel Series is my go-to for clients experiencing mild to moderate or non-inflamed acne, anyone with scarring or textural irregularities, and those with fine lines, wrinkles or sun damage. Peels can even be beneficial for clients with rosacea 😊  – shocking, I know! And because of how disparate those concerns are, it’s not a one-size-fits-all approach. There are multiple options for type of acid, peel strength, and intensity, so I can select the best product for your skin and concerns.

What’s In The Stars?

Our own Monica David gives you a look at what is happening in the cosmos.

“This week is very potent astrologically, as Mars and Pluto make a difficult aspect from the 8th to the 10th, creating very tense, aggressive, and even volatile energy. With this aspect, we can expect major, uncomfortable, and even painful shifts to take place, not just in our personal lives but on a global scale as well.

To top this all off, there is a new moon solar eclipse on the 14th. Eclipses represent shifts that can impact our lives for the next six months from the time of the eclipse, so expect a noticeable life change at the time of the eclipse, or close to it! Depending where the eclipse falls within your chart, a specific area of life will be affected. Whatever it is, you will see this chapter close around six months from now, when the next eclipse occurs in April of 2024.”
